31. Thoughts on Conversation Groups

Hello!

To finish this academic year, we’re going to reflect on something very important: conversation groups and the role they play in improving our English. This week, you’ll watch two short videos with different perspectives on speaking practice, confidence, communication, and learning through conversation.

The first video, from the British Council, focuses on the benefits of joining English conversation groups and practising regularly with other learners. The second video, by Rachel’s English, explores how real conversations help students become more natural, fluent, and confident speakers.

Both videos are short, accessible, and full of useful ideas for B1 learners. They’re also a good opportunity to think about your own experience this year: what has helped you most, what challenges you still have, and how you can continue improving your English in the future.

As this will be our last conversation session of the course, we would also like you to reflect a little on your experience in the group this year: the activities you enjoyed most, the things that helped you improve your English, or anything you would have preferred to do differently. Please think about it before class so that you can share your ideas more easily with the group.

Have a great weekend!

22. Fears and Phobias

Hi there!  Many people feel nervous when they have to speak in front of others. For some people, this fear is very strong and becomes a real phobia. In this video, Daniel tells the story of the day he finally faced his fear of public speaking. At first, he feels extremely anxious and thinks about avoiding the presentation. However, he decides to try. Step by step, he begins to feel more confident and finishes his talk successfully. This story reminds us that fear often becomes smaller when we face it instead of avoiding it. Have a great weekend!

28. Complaints and Requests

Dear conversationalists, Have you ever had a problem with a product or a service? Did you know what to say in English to complain or ask for help? Next week we will practise useful expressions for making complaints and requests in everyday situations, especially when dealing with customer service. To prepare the topic and revise practical phrases, we recommend you watch this video: Have a great (and long) weekend!

04. Weather

Hello! The weather is one of the most typical topics for small talk. We recommend that you watch this short video to refresh some vocabulary: See you next week!
